Petar Asic - Head Coach

Petar Asic was born in Croatia. He began playing water polo at the age of 9. Coming from a successful family of water polo players, Petar was selected to be on the Youth, Junior and Senior National Teams. In 1981 and 1982, as a player with Posk, Petar led the team to winning the Croatian Cup, twice.

This led to Petar’s arrival to the United States. He began his college career at Pepperdine University in 1984 on a full Water Polo scholarship. He was also selected as an All-American during his four years at Pepperdine, and still holds the scoring record as a Freshman of 99 goals.

Upon graduation, Petar began coaching and started at Santa Margarita Catholic High School. During his four years at SM, Petar was instrumental in leading the team to win Serra League for the first time in the school’s history. From 2006 to 2011, Petar was the Head Coach of the JSerra Catholic High School Boys Water Polo Team. Each year, Petar led the team to surpass results from previous years. In 2009, the Boys Water Polo team became the first JSerra team to represent the school in a CIF Division II Championship game. Petar instills and believes in the power of having a winning attitude through the principles of Water Polo.

Because of Petar’s success at the secondary level, many people began approaching him for private and group lessons. This led to the formation of an age-group water polo club, Orange County Water Polo Club (OCWPC). The club focuses on mastering fundamentals during important developmental years. The success of the club has led to numerous age group championships across all age groups for the past 7 years in both California and Michigan. The prized Gold Medal in the Junior Olympics in 2005 and the Gold Medal in Speedo Cup in 2006 and 2008, along with another Gold Medal at the 48th Annual Southern Pacific Zone Championships with recent tournaments wins at 2012 Turbo Cup in 10u, and 1st place in 16u Platinum at Kap7 Cup 2012. These are just a few highlights of such an exciting age group winning record.
